Mogalarajapuram Caves is popular for its three cave temples. It is located near Vijayawada and dates back to 5th century AD. The cave temples feature impressive carving and are one of the best kinds, especially the ‘Ardhanariswara”. This cave temple has Lord Shiva and Lord Vinayaka deities carved and is today one of the oldest major attractions of Vijayawada.
Moglarajapuram caves are on the Krishna River banks. They date back to prehistoric Stone Age times. This cave temple of the 5th century with the passage of time has worn out, yet its architectural beauty remains. This is a wonderful cave marking the remnants of architecture. The three cave temples that are in good condition are the Lord Nataraj, Lord Vinayaka and the Ardhanareswarar idol. Among these three, Ardhanareswarar idol is a unique statue.
The Moglarajapuram caves feature five rock-cut sanctuaries dating to the 5th century. The caves are nearly 5 kilometers from Vijayawada. They have religious significance owing to the idols presence. Apart from the caves, the Mogalarajapuram Temple is a popular attraction enshrined with idols. This ancient temple observes even today the ancient style of living and is an antique temple worth visiting.
The visiting hours for these caves are between 9am to 6pm. It can be visited throughout the year. There are no ticket charges and you do not need any guide to escort you through the caves. There is no dress code and it is very calm and serene.
Mogalarajapuram is a commercial and residential suburb in Vijayawada, located besides the low range hills. You can reach by cabs that are available in plenty and the charges are also very reasonable. In fact, you will get buses and auto rickshaws also from all major places such as bus station or railway station. Tourist buses also take to you to these major cities and attractions. However, from the airport it is far, but you will get taxi services right from the airport.
Cycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws run in and around Vijayawada. These modes of transport require fixing of fares that means you must negotiate in advance. The cycle rickshaws are cheaper and the fares are less, but they are slow in comparison to the auto rickshaws.
In the 5th century AD, the Krishna district was ruled by Vishnu Kundinas and he excavated cave temples at Mogalrajapuram. This is an attractive, antique temple worth visiting and observing the ancient standard of living.
